- EFIC® is the largest European Pain Congress.
As an organisation, the European Pain Federation EFIC® has been growing steadily over the last 25 years in its core domains of education, research, and advocacy. We have developed into Europe´s most important multi-disciplinary and multi-professional organization in the field of pain medicine, representing 37 constituent national pain societies with over 20,000 scientists, physicians, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals. More importantly, we are moving towards a more patient-inclusive organization. During #EFIC2019, we will offer you an overwhelming number of lectures, workshops, refresher courses and networking initiatives on almost every single aspect of pain. Indeed, we will cover acute, chronic, cancer and non-cancer pain. Furthermore, apart from the newest developments in basic science, we will discuss all aspects of multimodal interdisciplinary care for patients suffering from pain.
- EFIC® shines a spotlight on current trends and future developments in pain medicine.
On a strategic level, we want to encourage the active participation of young researchers and clinicians by introducing new formats of workshops. Therefore, we formed an excellent, broad-based Scientific Programme Committee (SPC), chaired by Frank Huygen. The SPC is working on an attractive and ambitious programme and will give room to both established internationally known scientists, but also their younger fellows and postdocs. This emphasis on the future of pain medicine leads up to the theme of our 2019 meeting: “BRINGING THE FUTURE TO THE PRESENT”. A comprehensive Industrial Exhibition, and sponsored Satellite Symposia, will perfectly complement the scientific content.

Importantly, you will be able to meet good old friends, and hopefully meet a large variety of new interesting people. Indeed, personal networking is one of the most important reasons that this type of conference can never be replaced by digital means only. While walking in the marvelous city of Valencia, you will witness that the theme of our congress, „BRINGING THE FUTURE TO THE PRESENT”, is a daily reality here. Indeed, Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela have created a must-see place in Spain, where art and science are celebrated in a setting of unique contemporary architecture. We will pay tribute to this country of science and culture with a Spanish speaking track, that can also give you an opportunity to enhance your Spanish language skills! Last but not the least, the old historic centre will welcome you with its traditional Mediterranean Spanish atmosphere.
