Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am proud to announce the 11th Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC®. This will be held in Valencia, Spain from 4th to 7th September 2019. As an organisation, the European Pain Federation EFIC® has been growing steadily over the last 25 years in its core domains of education, research, and advocacy. We have developed into Europe´s most important multi-disciplinary and multi-professional organization in the field of pain medicine, representing 37 constituent national pain societies with over 20,000 scientists, physicians, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
On behalf of EFIC®, it gives me great pleasure to invite you and your colleagues to the most important and largest pain meeting in 2019. We will offer you an overwhelming number of lectures, workshops, refresher courses and networking initiatives on almost every single aspect of pain. Indeed, we will cover acute, chronic, cancer and non-cancer pain. Furthermore, apart from the newest developments in basic science, we will discuss all aspects of multimodal interdisciplinary care for patients suffering from pain.
On a strategic level, we want to encourage the active participation of young researchers and clinicians by introducing new formats of workshops. Therefore, we formed an excellent, broad-based Scientific Programme Committee (SPC), chaired by Frank Huygen. The SPC is working on an attractive and ambitious programme and will give room to both established internationally known scientists, but also their younger fellows and postdocs. This emphasis on the future of pain medicine leads up to the theme of our 2019 meeting: “BRINGING THE FUTURE TO THE PRESENT”.
Importantly, you will be able to meet good old friends, and hopefully meet many new interesting people. Indeed, personal networking is one of the most important reasons that this type of conference can never be replaced by digital means only.
A comprehensive Industrial Exhibition, and sponsored Satellite Symposia, will perfectly complement the scientific content.
On behalf of the European Pain Federation EFIC®, I would like to encourage you to join us at the most ambitious Pain Congress in 2019. I look forward to welcoming you to the sunny city of Valencia, and to what we know will be our most successful meeting ever.
President, European Pain Federation EFIC®
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We are very excited to invite you to Pain in Europe XI – the 11th Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC, which will take place in Valencia, Spain, on 4-7 September 2019.
Pain in Europe XI will build on the success of the previous Congress and continue to be Europe’s foremost forum for discussing pain and pain management.
We live in a rapidly changing world. New technologies are becoming available and the organisation of care is quickly shifting. New insights into pathophysiology will lead to more mechanism-oriented treatments. As we are all getting older, the number of patients with pain is increasing. At the same time, healthcare budgets are under growing pressure. It is clear that innovative approaches are crucial. Last but not least, we have to pay great attention to our successors: Today’s students are the doctors of tomorrow.
The motto of the Congress will be ‘Bringing the Future to the Present’.
The Scientific Committee is elaborating a programme with topics covering all areas of interest in the field of pain and pain management. We will implement basic science and integrate this into presentations of clinical practice, skills in diagnoses and treatments. We will put great value in the proper recognition of multimodal and multidisciplinary approaches to pain.
Pain in Europe XI will continue to have refresher courses in order to share state of the art knowledge, elaborating on the core curricula developed by the European Pain Federation. We will also have special sessions organised with patient representatives, as well as a track dedicated to Spanish-speaking participants.
In line with our ambition to ‘Bring the Future to the Present’, we will be inviting young talented researchers to present their cutting-edge work on stage, introduced by their mentors.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in the city of Valencia, located on Spain’s south-eastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. The Congress will provide all participants with an unforgettable personal and professional experience.
